Premier League 2021/22: Manchester City are gearing up for the new season

After last season’s massive success, Pep Guardiola’s side is definitely looking to defend their title and success. However, several other teams ended the tournament on strong notes, which may prove to be hindrances for the Citizens. Although Liverpool struggled immensely at the start of the season, they managed to pick up the pace and end it in third place. Thomas Tuchel’s new and improved Chelsea will be a problem for the defenders of the title in the upcoming season. And finally, Manchester United have the potential to win their first EPL title ever since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, given their fantastic form in 2020/21.

The summer transfer window allows managers to strengthen the areas their teams lack in, and Guardiola will be looking to further enhance his side and prepare them for the upcoming campaign. According to recent updates, Manchester City has confirmed their first signing of the summer, goalkeeping veteran Scott Carson. Carson is no stranger to the team as he has been a part of Guardiola’s squad for the last two seasons, arriving on loan from Derby in 2019, which was then extended.

On the move, Carson said: “It’s a pleasure and a privilege to be part of the setup here at City. To be around Pep and his backroom staff is fantastic, and I feel I have learnt so much since I joined in 2019.”

“The lads made me feel at home straight away, and I have loved every second of my two years here. To commit for another year was such an easy decision. I want to continue pushing the other goalkeepers we have here, and I want to make sure my experience rubs off on them.”

Director of football, Txiki Begiristain continued by stating: “He is a former international goalkeeper who has played in lots of big games during a long career.”

“We know he is always ready to play if we need to call upon him. The lads love him, and I know his experience has been a huge help to Ederson and Zack Steffen.”

Pre-season training has started ahead of several matches, including Preston North End, ES Troyes and the Community Shield vs Leicester on August 7th. However, players who were part of Gareth Southgate’s England squad in the Euro 2020 will be on three weeks holiday before they return to training. Among these players are Kyle Walker, John Stones, Phil Foden and Raheem Sterling, who also appears in Sportingbet’s list of Europe’s deadliest strikers with several hattricks to his name across the leagues.

Although the England team had an abundance of talent and world-class players, Italy’s name was written on the silverware. The Euro 2020 final left the England squad in low spirits, but now it is time to look forward to the new season and defending the title.

Several other players such as Joan Cancelo, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake are all set to return to pre-season training this week, with the Premier League starting in less than four weeks. Hopes are high for the squad this season, and Manchester City are also favourites to win the Premier League again. Only time will tell if they have the same force and drive as last season.
