4 things you need to know if you have a poor mobile signal

You are at home and talking on the phone with someone, but the quality of the connection does not allow you to hear the interlocutor well. You would like to fix it, and just in case, we can give some “advice” about it. We will tell you about the factors that can be influenced, for example, connection and security of mobile phone boosters, and which cannot be influenced, which mainly affect signal reception. And this situation is much more manageable than it may seem to you, so we will give you some suggestions in this regard as well.

#1 There are several options how to improve the signal

The simplest, you can change your position on the area if the signal is weak. By changing the position where you surf on your mobile broadband, you can find the place where the signal is strongest. Place the modem as high as possible to improve the signal as much as possible, the location of the modem is of great importance. You also can place the modem as high up as possible and preferably in a window facing the nearest cell tower. If you don’t know where the nearest cell tower is, you can always contact your operator and ask. It can be quite uncomfortable, that’s why people choose a mobile signal booster to make sure that the signal will work properly. Moreover, we know that the most inventive people usually choose to build their own satellite dish.

However, you can just buy an external antenna to improve the signal.  In this article, we would like to tell you more about how you can proceed and what is good to think about before buying a signal booster. As you know, the environment affects the signal on mobile broadband the most. Forests, hilly terrain and buildings are examples of things that affect the signal from being strong enough when it reaches you. The distance to the nearest cell tower also affects the signal strength. Your home also has a certain influence on the signal you receive with your mobile broadband. Walls, doors and windows are often built in an energy-efficient way, which in turn blocks out much of the cold from outside. Unfortunately, it also blocks the mobile signal.

#2 Mobile phone boosters are effective and safe!

You don’t need to be an expert in radiological science to use signal amplifiers (also called signal repeaters). It is radio equipment designed to receive the signal emitted by 2G/3G or 4G base stations of mobile communication service providers to amplify it and retransmit it inside buildings. This way, it can provide improved power of the radio signal received by the mobile phone, without worries about the security of mobile phones boosters

There’s no doubt that reliable suppliers of radio equipment, such as UCtel, will always help you to choose an appropriate booster. Most people choose this equipment, because they are sure about the security details of mobile phones boosters. Today, mobile phones boosters are absolutely harmless!

#3 External antenna can be a good option to improve the signal

If you still experience a weak signal, it may work to get an external antenna. With an external antenna, the signal between the mobile mast and the modem is not as sensitive to interference. There are two different types of antennas you can get for mobile broadband: directional antennas and omnidirectional antennas. Here, we prepared for you information two antenna types:

  • Omnidirectional antennas

An omnidirectional antenna is an antenna that can receive signals from 360 degrees. The antenna therefore does not need to be aimed at the nearest mobile mast, but it receives the signals equally well from all directions.

The major disadvantage is that these antennas are more sensitive to interference and have a worse antenna gain than directional antennas, that is, it does not amplify as much as a directional antenna.

  • Directional antennas

Directional antennas only receive signals from one direction and must therefore be directed towards the nearest base station. The antenna gain is normally higher for these antennas than for omnidirectional antennas, and they are also not as sensitive to interference.

The disadvantage of directional antennas is that they must always be aimed at a base station in order for them to have any effect. They must therefore be mounted at a fixed point and in a fixed direction at all times.

#4 Choose an antenna according to your need

Which external antenna is best depends on where you plan to use your mobile broadband. If you only use your mobile broadband at home, directional antenna is clearly best as it provides the highest antenna gain and is unaffected by other interference. Then you just attach it to the roof or facade and aim it at the nearest base station.

In addition, you can choose between portable and stationary antennas. It also depends on whether  you want a portable antenna or a stationary one. The advantage of a portable antenna is that you can easily take it with you to improve your coverage in more than one place. The disadvantage is that it does not have as high a performance as a stationary antenna.

A stationary antenna is instead best suited for those who only need an antenna at home. Then it matters less that it is fixed and cannot be taken with you as soon as you leave.

Conclusion

As you can see, there are many methods you can try if you are having problems with your mobile connection. But we admit that some of them can help only in cases where you need to connect to the network to make a call or send a message. If you constantly suffer from these signal problems, running to a higher floor every time you want to call someone is ridiculous.

But a signal amplifier from, for example, UCtel is a solution that will always guarantee a strong signal. All you need to do is buy and install the right model that fits your home and is compatible with your carrier. Everything else will be done automatically.
