Differences between CBD Tincture and CBD Oil

Veterinarians' Take on CBD Oil For Cats

Most people do not know the difference between CBD oil and tinctures. Their extraction and package may appear similar, but they are not the same. Read along to understand the difference.

What Is CBD?

CBD (in full- cannabidiol) is one of the products that come from cannabis. CBD is a type of cannabinoid that comes from marijuana, although it does not give the “high” effect when you use it. CBD itself does not exist in the marijuana plant in oil form

CBD Oil Ingredients

The cannabidiol extract is a white crystalline solid that requires another form of oil to dissolve and remain in liquid form. It is in the oil form that the human body takes it in properly. Therefore, CBD contains the following ingredients:

  • Carrier oil (hemp seed oil or coconut oil for better absorption)
  • Flavonoids
  • Phytocannabinoids
  • Phytonutrients

What Are CBD Tinctures?

Tinctures are the CBD extracts inside alcohol solvents. Alcohol is the main agent during extraction and also the carrier after extraction. The tinctures tend to be very bitter, hence the need to include some sweet additives.

CBD Tincture Ingredients

An alcoholic liquid is one of the major ingredients in CBD tinctures. Other ingredients include flavonoids and sweeteners to reduce bitterness and add a variety in taste. Tinctures also contain glycerin oil and, for some manufacturers, vitamin and supplement additives.

How Do You Take CBD Oil and Tinctures?

The main method of taking CBD oil and tinctures is oral. Under-the-tongue absorption is the fastest way to get it into your body system. Alternatively, you can blend CBD oil and tinctures with food.

  • CBD can replace vegetable oil in baking
  • It can be a major recipe in smoothies
  • As CBD dressing in fruit salads
  • In cold or hot beverages of your choice.

Difference between CBD Oil and Tinctures

CBD oil has a bad oily taste, while tinctures come in different sweet flavors. You can take in tinctures though food while and the CBD through vaping. Although they both contain carrier fluids, CBD oil is cannabidiol with oil as a base, while tinctures have an alcohol base.

CBD oil is costlier than the tinctures, but the former expires quicker than the latter. Tinctures tend to have a longer shelf life than oil. As a precaution, it is good to keep all CBD products from direct sunlight.

Which Is Better: CBD Oil or Tinctures?

Both are equally effective, and only your preferences should guide you. If you do not like the alcoholic taste of tinctures, you may opt for the oil product. On the other hand, if the oil is not friendly to your stomach, you can switch to the tinctures. Anyone who does not take alcohol should not use CBD tinctures.

How to Determine Quality of CBD Oil or Tincture

It is quite a challenge since FDA does not regulate CBD. However, you can consider factors such as the level of other cannabinoids, potency, and contaminants. A good product should have CBD as the only cannabinoid.

Consult your doctor before you choose any CBD product and make a choice basing on the doctor’s advice and your preferences. Normalize adding some CBD products to your dog’s diet to control seizures and any form of pain in the dog.
