Here’s how to make informed choices when betting on the UFC

5 Ways Digital Technology is Changing Sports Betting

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has become one of the most action packed, and adrenaline fuelled fight tournaments that attracts fans from around the world. The fiercest competitors battle out in the octagon ring, the UFC provides some of the most exhilarating fight nights.

Sportsbooks have welcomed the immense interest in the sport and UFC odds can be found for every fight coming up.

UFC has followed on from where boxing gained a big reputation as a sport synonymous with gambling. Though not necessary for the enjoyment of it, a flutter on the fight can add to the excitement and enjoyment of the night.

All information on the fighters’ histories is often given by UFC and other sites with full stats breakdowns and information on players fighting styles and form which all help towards forming your decisions on who to bet on and how.

There is a wide range of betting options in UFC and below is a list of examples on the types of bets available on UFC.

The Moneyline

The first type of bet to consider is the Moneyline, this is when betting on who will win the fight. The moneyline gives odds on both fighters to win the fight with one as the favourite and one as the underdog.

If the fight is considered to be a close call, the odds will look similar for both, but with a clear favourite then the odds will be much different.

The favourites are given a negative value and the underdog will have a positive value, this is the points handicap for the favourite and head start for the underdog.

Although there are not often draws in UFC, this is the third option available to punters, and odds on this are often very generous due to the rareness of a draw in UFC.

Over/Under

With these bets the sportsbook will set a line on how long the fight will last, it is for the punter to then review the odds and see where the value is on a quick or full distance fight.

Each round in the UFC last for five minutes and when betting on a time it is important to make sure you are fully aware of this.

If you bet on a fight lasting less than 2.5 rounds, then if the fight goes on into the third minute of the second round you will have lost. If it finishes before the two-and-a-half-minute mark in the second round you will have won.

Most odds are offered with lines which include half a round so make sure you bear this in mind when placing your bet.

Outcome Bets

This is where you are betting on the specific way the fight will be won. There are a number of options as to how a bout can end; by decision, technical decision, draw, knockout/technical knockout, or submission. Odds are offered on each and an understanding of the fighter’s style is important when making these bets.

With these bets, the style of both fighters and their recent form is important in forming your decision. This is often a tough one to call and a good knowledge of each fighter is important when making this type of bet.

Round Bets

This is where punters can place a wager on which specific round the fight will be won in. Round bets are particularly interesting for fighters who often have an early aggressive start, or fighters who are controlled and take their time to wear out an opponent.

Each fighter will receive odds on winning in each round and it is for the punter to decide which fighter they think will be victorious and which round they will do so in.

Prop Bets

These bets cover all other forms of bets based on the proposition of a certain event happening. They have become very popular amongst punters for their offer of something different or specific on each fight.

The good thing about prop bets is that if you have a feeling for a specific outcome or something to happen over the bout, you can find odds for your bet.

If you think a bout will go the distance, if you think a fighter will draw blood first, or for the performance of the night you will find odds at all good sportsbooks.

Parlay Bets

This is where you combine two or more bets into one to receive better odds. This can be a mixture of the fight finishing in a specific round and the outcome, or for a mixture of winners of fights on a specific night in different fights.

These bets often help increase the value of your bet, though add more variables and are harder to win.

It is important to make sure you are fully aware of the type of bet you are placing, there are often pages with information on all you need to know about each type of bet with the site.
