How To Choose Speakers?

Music speakers are used for a variety of purposes. They are necessary both for relaxing to music and for mastering song online. There are many other uses for speakers. But they have one function – sound reproduction, the quality of which depends on the correct choice of speakers.

How Do It Work?

Speakers works quite simply. A permanent magnet is securely attached to the case – unlike an electromagnet, this allows you to continuously create a magnetic field in any conditions. In cheap models, old materials are used – ordinary ferrite magnets. More modern, technologically advanced and expensive speakers are equipped with high-quality neodymium magnets that create a static field. The incomparably higher quality of such devices and their still not too widespread use allowed manufacturers to indicate the use of neodymium as a distinctive feature of their products.

A permanent magnetic field surrounds a coil of copper wire, powered by AC current from the mains, battery, or USB port, depending on the speaker type. It is worth noting that the devices work with high-level currents – the voltage is measured in volts, tens and, in some cases, even thousands of volts, and the current strength is measured in amperes and tens of amperes. This creates a need for signal linearity.

The flow of electrons is modulated by an acoustic signal and, in accordance with the laws of physics, creates an electromagnetic field around itself. Its interaction with the static field from the permanent magnet imparts dynamics to the coil. The movement of the coil, in turn, causes the diffuser membrane to vibrate, the vibrations cause vibrations in the air, which are perceived by the human ear as sound.

As you can see, there is almost nothing complicated and varied in the design of the speakers. What criteria should a user be guided by in order to choose the best speakers for music? It turns out there are several types of speakers.

The Different Types Of Speakers

There are 3 types of music speakers.

  1. Mono models are extremely compact. They only have one speaker. Some mono speaker models can provide high volume sound, but stereoscopic sound is not possible.
  2. Stereo models have a pair of speakers. With their help, you can achieve high-quality stereoscopic sound of music, but only if they are optimally placed.
  3. In 2.1 systems, in addition to two speakers, there is a subwoofer. These speakers provide the greatest comfort when listening to music. Their only drawback is their large size.

Where Can The Speakers Be Placed?

Modern music production speakers can be placed almost anywhere. It is only important to move them some distance from the walls, do not cover or turn the speakers to the wall or furniture. Otherwise, the sound will be reflected at a completely unpredictable angle, which will definitely not add quality. It is desirable that the speakers are slightly turned towards each other and are on special stands or wall mounts.

How To Choose The Right Amplifier?

When choosing, you first need to know what exactly you will connect to it: one pair of acoustics, two pairs, a subwoofer or all together? If you are going to connect only one pair of speakers, then a two-channel amplifier will do, if two pairs of speakers are a four-channel one. To connect a subwoofer, in most cases, they take either a separate single-channel audio amplifier (monoblock), or a five-channel, with a fifth channel, which has a lot of power and is designed specifically for connecting a subwoofer. The subwoofer can also be connected to a 2-channel or 4-channel ecbkbntk., But a bridged connection is required.

The second selection criterion is the power rating per channel. To connect acoustics with a rated power of 70 W, an amplifier with a power per channel of 60-70 W is required. That is, the power per channel should be slightly less than the power of the connected acoustics, or equal to it.

Also, you should pay attention to additional features, such as the presence of high-level inputs, built-in crossover, external bass control, sound processor and the ability to work at 2 and 1 ohm.

The following conclusions can be drawn:

  • there are several types of speakers that are fundamentally different from each other;
  • you can install speakers almost anywhere to achieve acceptable sound, but for optimal sound, certain placement rules must be followed;
  • the right sound amplifier requires the most careful choice.
