What tips should a beginner follow to prepare for the CGPSC syllabus?

In Chhattisgarh, the Public Service Commission conducts a written examination every year for entry-level appointments to the state’s civil services. It is conducted in three phases: Preliminary, Mains and Interview.

How to prepare for CGPSC Syllabus

Here are some tips that you can follow to prepare for your CGPSC syllabus:

Make a strategy

The first thing you have to do is make a timetable and follow it strictly. To be able to do so, make a note of the exam dates, list down the syllabus and start preparing subject-wise. A common mistake that a lot of students make is that they start studying all the subjects at once, which only leads to confusion.

Go through the syllabus

If you want to prepare for CGPSC exam on your own from home, follow NCERT Books from Classes 6th to 12th and analyse the CGPSC syllabus properly. The pattern changes every year, so you have to keep analysing it repeatedly and be agile.

First, make a list of subjects that carry more marks and devote more time to them and try to complete them first, followed by other subjects.

Start preparing early

We can’t emphasise this enough. The most important tip is to start preparing early. By doing that, you will give yourself enough time to start from scratch, practise papers from previous years and revise subjects.

Read newspapers

This is another habit we can’t emphasise enough. Reading newspapers is one of the best ways to stay abreast of current affairs and build a vocabulary as well.

Practise mock tests

You should take mock tests regularly. It helps you prepare for the situation and manage time, so you don’t panic on exam day. You can find various mock tests on BYJU’s Exam Prep platform.

Prepare from previous year’s papers

You can understand how important this tip is since we are discussing it again despite talking about it previously. Just like taking mock tests, this will also help manage time. More importantly, it will help you understand the pattern in which questions are asked in the exam.

Make notes

This is one of the most underrated tips. Taking physical notes from important sections and topics works as a good recall point to the entire section. It helps you understand the topic better and ensures that you remember it well.

Revise

Revising is another way of learning any subject easily and quickly. With every subsequent revision, you’re one step closer to mastering the topic. Revising also helps you find gaps in your understanding, which you can fix subsequently.

The CGPSC exam is one of the most prestigious exams and, as such, taken by hundreds of thousands of hopeful candidates every year. The competition is fierce. For first-time candidates, it can be quite overwhelming as well. So you need every bit of help and guidance to ensure you are a step ahead of others. By following the tips above, you can be better prepared for the exam, which will improve your chances of getting through.
